Asheville
Satellite Office
The Asheville satellite office serves
math and science teachers in Buncombe County and Asheville
City Schools as well as in surrounding areas. Our goal is
to create a community of teachers and schools who use technology
to improve the teaching of science and mathematics. The
office is housed at The
Health Adventure, a science museum in downtown Asheville.
With
generous funding from the Golden Leaf Foundation, middle
school science and math teachers will have access to training
and equipment including laptops, LabQuests, graphing calculators, and
a variety of probes. The use of such
equipment promotes inquiry exploration and helps students
see technology as a tool for learning.

Introduction to The Science House Technologies
July 20, 2010 9am - 3pm
How would you like having free technology brought to your classroom when you requested it? How would you like having your students engaged and excited about their science and math lessons? How would you like free resources and labs to use in your classroom? All this can be yours and more with a day of training courtesy of The Science House of NC State University. We will use laptop computers, LabPros, LabQuests and various probes to explore science and math concepts. After the day's training session, you will be certified to partner with The Science House! This means a class set of the equipment can be brought to your school for a week at a time for your students to use. This workshop is reserved for people in District 8. Register online at www.wresa.org If you have questions please email Michelle Benigno. See you then! Limited to 25 participants
- Project G.R.E.E.N.- (Growing Respect for the Environment through Education and Nature)
Brush Creek Elementary School has partnered with The Science House to pilot a Place Based Learning program in the mountains. These teachers decided to use their campus to promote scientific literacy, character education and excitement about learning. The teachers are designing units on each of the goals from the NC Standard Course of Study and using different areas of their campus as the learning sites for the study.
- Transylvania County T.I.M.E. Project- (If students are given adequate TIME to engage in true INQUIRY into their own questions, and find that they and their new findings MATTER to others; they will continue to EXPLORE more opportunities in science)
The Science House partners with Transylvania 4-H (Mary Arnaudin) and Transylvania public schools to provide students with year-long inquiry research experience. These students are mentored by scientists in the area and teachers in the high schools.
- CSI TEAMS Project
WRESA's MSP Grant Project that focuses on integrating Math and Science content with inquiry learning for Polk County, Cherokee, Henderson, Madison, Cherokee, Swain, Transylvania, Yancey Public Schools.
